Tim McCoy is a native New Hampshire singer, songwriter and bass player, with 30+ years of rock ‘n’ roll under his belt. Tim McCoy has been a working musician since 1991, when he formed the seminal power pop band, Heavens to Murgatroid, alongside Rick Twombly, after Tim had managed Rick’s band, It Figures. Heavens to Murgatroid released three albums in the 1990s, touring the country in a fuchsia colored school bus that no one could miss.
In 1999, Tim formed W**d Inc. with Leo Ganley and Norm Fuller, releasing three albums over the next five years, and changing the band's name to Lemon Fresh Kids before the release of their third album. During this time, Tim was also playing in Starch with Jon McCormack (Fly Spinach Fly) and Jamie Perkins (The Pretty Reckless).
In the mid-2000s, Tim started working on his own material and released “Late Nights on Washington”, his solo debut, which was produced by Jon Nolan (Say Zuzu, Hokum). Tim formed Tim McCoy and the Papercuts and went on to record and release two more albums with the Papercuts, while playing countless live shows.
During this time, Billy Butler (Bitter Pill) wrote the theatre production “Gay Bride of Frankenstein” and enlisted Tim, McCormack and Perkins to be The Monster Makers, the live rock band for the show, releasing an original workshop album.
Tim joined Watts, a rock ‘n’ roll band from Boston, alongside John Blout, Dan Kopko (Shang Hi Los, Peppermint Kicks), and John Lynch (The Neighborhoods, Avoid One Thing). Tim has released three studio albums with Watts and continues with the band to this day. Dan and Tim also formed Super Black Market Clash City Rockers, a Clash tribute, which included a performance covering London Calling in it's entirety in 2019 for the 40th anniversary of the album’s release.
Tim is also a member of The Wheel of Awesome, a game show musical tribute to many different genres. The band has an actual wheel onstage with several different categories and play a song from that category landed on. There's no set list, and a show can range from classic rock to punk, Prince to Bowie, to the 1980s and all points in between. This band features McCormack, Rick Habib (Dreadnaught) on drums and Chris Sink (Queen City Soul) on keys.
Tim's most recent album, Best of Us, Worst of Us, All of Us, was released in 2023. The album was recorded at Critical Electric Sound in NH, engineered by Duncan Watt (The Pretty Reckless, Dreadnaught) and co-produced by Tim, Duncan and Habib, who is also the drummer for the album. Tracks features guitar parts from Kopko, Dave Steele (Blue Man Group, Orangutang), Jay Fortin (Scissorfight, Blue Man Group), Tim Theriault (Heavens to Murgatroid, Sully Erna), and a piano solo by Pete Donnelly (The Figgs).
The members of New Norde used to make relatively shiny pop songs as 2000s New Hampshire seacoast stalwarts, The Minus Scale. This new project is a power-pop trio who shamelessly wear influences like Matthew Sweet, Nada Surf, Teenage Fanclub, and Guided by Voices on its collective sleeve.
Forming in the fall of 2019, the band spent 18 months remotely wood-shedding dozens of songs. On April 15th, 2022, New Norde released their debut EP, Whatever’s Clever (Trash Casual / Mint 400); a selection of carefully crafted power-pop songs about growing up, getting out, taking a damn minute, and cake.
After a busy 2023 that concluded with the release of a cover of “Hey Jealousy” and two Christmas songs, the band will be releasing singles throughout 2024.
