About this Event

The exhibition "Tierra y Raices/Earth and Roots” offers an amazing range of emerging and established local artists who explore their relationship to the natural world from personal, cultural, historical, spiritual, and even political perspectives. Our relationship to the moon, the look of a stone, the experience of our ancestors, the feel of our domesticated (and non-domesticated) animals, and the power of a storm—these and other perspectives will be on display. The exhibition is curated by Joe Miller and presented by the School of Arts & Culture and Works/San José community art center in the gallery at Mexican Heritage Plaza.

Join MovingGround for their second annual performance, created in gratitude and inspiration from the Tierra y Raices Exhibition. This performance is set to be a highlight of the closing reception at the School of Arts and Culture and the Mexican Heritage Plaza on Thursday, March 28th, from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm. This year's interactive experience will delve into themes such as migration, cultural erasure, loss, and reflections on how we nurture our cultural roots. Explore the profound ties to the land embedded in our family histories, traditions, languages, and spiritual connections to one another and our earth mother. Respect to life and a tribute to peoples facing loss of their homelands around the world.
