100 SUNSET by Kunsang Kyirong
2025 | CANADA | FEATURE | 99 min
Tibetan with English subtitles
Set in the Tibetan neighborhood of Parkdale, Toronto, this debut feature from breakthrough Canadian filmmaker Kunsang Kyirong is a spellbinding and mischievous immersion into an enclosed immigrant community that creates a naturalistic narrative of fascinating, oblique emotion. The film centers on the mysterious and passive Kunsel, a petty thief and amateur filmmaker who becomes fixated upon another young woman named Passang, who has recently arrived to the neighborhood and confides her disillusionment in Kunsel. Toggling between the home video aesthetic of Kunsel’s stolen camcorder and Kyirong’s austere, omniscient camera, 100 Sunset, named after the address of the women’s high-rise building, in an enigmatic portrait of loneliness told from a fresh perspective.
