Immerse yourself in the mesmerizing experience of a James Turrell Skyspace while hearing distinguished art historians, architects, designers, and other scholars deepen your understanding of the themes Come to Good and Keith House embody. March 19th | Erik Skjolsvik
Fort Worth artist Erik Skjolsvik will discuss the commonality between light, architecture, calligraphy and pattern while also exploring the importance of craft, labor and time in his object- making process.
About the Artist
Erik began with graphic design and photo-realism, later rooting himself in the punk rock culture in Dallas's Deep Ellum doing graffiti and murals. This distinctive visual language and large-scale technique led him to paint massive backdrops for touring rock legends such as Pantera and Slayer. This early work, “art for the rock and roll planet” was seen by millions of music fans and lived on the road, behind amplifiers and stage lights. Skjolsvik was the founder and operator of one of the first artist-run alternative art spaces in Fort Worth, called Forest Park Art Space. He also traveled as an art handler, working closely with museums, galleries, and private collections. That experience sharpened his eye, deepened his respect for craftsmanship, and exposed him to an extraordinary range of artistic voices.
