Threats to Elected Officials: What Can Be Done?

ABOUT THE EVENT:
Threats and harassment targeting elected officials are negatively impacting our political processes and local democratic forums. What can be done to mitigate this threat to our democracy while still protecting First Amendment rights?

On Wednesday, June 26th, 5 PM at UCR's Alumni Visitor's Center The Violence, Inequality and Power (VIP) Lab with the UCR’s School of Public Policy, IE Labor and Community Center, and Department of Political Science will be hosting an in-person conversation on reinforcing local democratic practices and civil civic engagement.
The VIP Lab, part of the University of San Diego's Kroc Institute of Peace and Justice will present findings from surveys and interviews with local elected officials in San Diego, Imperial and Riverside Counties.
We will also hear from experts working to bridge divides across our
communities. Former Riverside Mayor Ronald Loveridge, will co-host. Following the presentation, attendees will break into small groups to discuss the information and brainstorm ideas for community and policy solutions.
