In her presentation, Margaret will share how she uses her art to express the feminist maxim “the personal is political”, connect with the feminist movement in Singapore, and commemorate their resilience and solidarity.

Lecture Title:

The role of community circus in rebuilding trust, agency, and resilience among survivors of Domestic Family Violence

This lecture discusses ‘Circus in a Tea Cup', a community performance project involving a collaboration between survivors of domestic and family violence (DFV), and members of Vulcana Circus. Drawing on reflections and interviews with the women, it discusses how participation created opportunities for the women to reclaim their power, as well as build trust, community, and resilience.

In this reflective hands-on workshop, we explore weaving as a metaphor for identity and solidarity. Through a simple creative activity, we make artworks that honour our own journeys while recognising the quiet networks of support and community that hold us, reminding us that individual stories are strengthened through shared experience.
