About this Event
Vasun is a Masterchef Season 2 contestant whose passion lies in cooking and exploring South Indian food. After 8 years of experimentation and studying thosai fermentation, she shares her ‘Thosai Queen’ knowledge on the art and science of thosai making through her ‘Beginner’s Thosai Masterclasses’ from her home. Since last March, over 40 students have successfully made thosai from scratch. She has also written an online series ‘Thosai 10 Ways’ for Wonderwall.sg and collaborated with Indian Heritage Centre, T:Works and Food Forward India on food-related projects. When not making thosai, she runs her own newsletter ‘Vnacular’ where she shares recipes and writes about areas where food overlaps with culture, history and society.
Programme outline:
Discover the art of thosai making in this exclusive ‘Thosai Experience @Cantina’ with Masterchef contestant Vasun. During this hands-on, interactive session, you will understand the basic science of thosai fermentation, the recipe and the technique of swirling beautiful thosais. In addition, you will learn how to make unique plant-based chutneys using local produce.
Each participant will also get to practise making their own thosais with several variations. At the end, you will enjoy a ‘South Indian Thosai Feast’ complete with Vasun’s homemade masala chai and other plant-based sides.
