“Home isn't where you're from, it's where you find light when all grows dark.” – Pierce Brown

Imagine with Sacred and Profane a world in which all people live with dignity, safe to be who they are. In May, we sing songs of resistance, including Melissa Dunphy’s United We Dream about immigrant rights, Sommerro’s Til Ungdommen about Scandinavian humanist democracy, Benjamin Britten’s Advance Democracy, and Ayanna Woods’ remarkable Shift. We sing works about home and belonging including beloved gems by Bruckner and Paulus, Caroline Shaw’s masterful and the swallow, and uplifting works by Michael Abel and Derrick Skye. We spotlight local talent with Kirke Mechem’s Great is the Truth, Eric Tuan’s The City of Friends, and the premiere of our own Edna Yeh’s Protest.
