This Is Raleigh Meetup (at Kirby Derby)

The Kirby Derby, otherwise known as a Soapbox Derby (aka go kart race) is a super fun event to watch. What started as a parade in a small community of 32 homes and soapbox derby around the neighborhood streets has grown into a fun and entertaining parade and soapbox derby in Dix Park with participants dressed up in colorful costumes of expression.

This years theme is "The Roaring 20’s".

Join us for a few drinks and bite to eat as we watch a quirky parade, pine car races and, of course, a the full-on Derby! And come expecting costumes and silliness galore - It's a party!

What To Expect:

* The Parade - an outrageous event of creative expressions of the Kirby Derby theme, "The Roaring 20's." Teams, brigades, individuals, floats, bands, derby cars and pit crews.

* Soapbox Derby - a fast and furious 2-cars-at-a-time race of go-cart size gravity-only vehicles.

* Cheering Spectators - that's us, y'all. Have fun and watch the shenanigans, you do not need a ticket to attend - but we would still love for you to register so we have a rough idea of numbers and to look out for you!

Date & Time: Saturday, Aug 20th, 4.30pm - 8pm (soapbox derby is about 6pm)

Location: Black Drive at Umstead Dr, Harvey Hill, Dorothea Dix Park, Raleigh

Directions: Enter Dix Park off Western Boulevard (Sth Boylan Ave entrance), turn left on Umstead Drive and you will run into Harvey Hill. Or, enter Dix Park off Lake Wheeler Rd, follow Umstead Drive and you will see Harvey Hill up on the left.

Food & Drink - this is NOT a BYO event. Food trucks will be on-site and beer will be for sale.
