About this Event
Nicholas Kristof has seen the world up close, in all its variety and humanity, in its many shades of good and evil. This multi-Pulitzer winner’s work is well known by readers of the New York Times and his chart-topping books. Now he tells his own story. His foreign correspondent days, reporting from Hong Kong, Beijing, and Tokyo; traveling to cover the Tiananmen Square protests and massacre, the Yemeni civil war, the Darfur genocide, the opioid crisis at home. His current role as columnist; his books penned both alone and with his wife - Tightrope, A Path Appears, Half the Sky, Thunder from the East, and China Wakes.
Kristof’s new book, Chasing Hope: A Reporter’s Life expands beyond memoir to introduce us to some of the great names in journalism. And the lesser-known heroes he’s encountered – the dissident he helped escape from China; the nun who browbeat a warlord into releasing kidnapped schoolgirls.
These are the people and times that have – perhaps surprisingly – made an optimist of Nicolas Kristof. It’s within his coverage of humanity’s worst that he’s also found the best: warriors fighting for justice, on battlegrounds both literal and figurative, abroad and at home.
Nicholas Kristof joins Angie Coiro for this latest installment of our This Is Now culture and politics series. Be there to hear these tales and more – and most importantly, to hear the ingredients of his determined optimism. He’s coming to Kepler’s, and we hope you’ll do the same!
