this is a Very Good time, this is a party, this is a dinner and a show, this is a reunion, this is artists supporting artists, this is businesses supporting businesses, this is dismantling capitalism, this is mutual aid, this is a neighborhood, this is refreshing, this is tasty, this is LET ME ENTERTAIN YOU!
Our mission is to reimagine and redefine performance art as a tool for cultivating community togetherness, promoting coalition building, and envisioning collective liberation. The Very Good Dance Theatre ensemble invites you to a gathering to raise support for the work that puts that mission into action. Funds raised at this event support VGDT's ongoing local partnerships (like our partnership with The Trestle Inn), our offerings for practice (like Dance Theatre Series and practice practice), and our ensemble's upcoming solo projects WAWA and INVITED DRESS.
this is groceries for your neighbor, this is family dinner, this is tipping your bartender, this is remembering your barista's birthday, this is art on your walls that your friend made, this is co-creation of a beautiful space, this a place you go to when you just gotta be around people, this is good people, this is what happens when good people gather: when good people gather we all benefit. this is a benefit.
THE COST OF GOODS (re: pay-what-you-can)
This event is free to attend and open to the public! However, this event will not be free to create and produce. We believe that we all benefit from spaces of public good (arts, entertainment, food, culture, togetherness, etc.) regardless of the ability to pay, so we're making this space unambiguously and unanimously free to access, no matter what! However, our ability to provide community spaces is enabled by the support we receive to hold these spaces.
The suggested donation for this event is $15-$50. When purchasing a ticket to this event, or donating outright, we encourage you to self-asseses your own financial access and ability to support our ensemble and the community we provide resources for (and that includes you); we're asking you to consider how much you are able to contribute in order to help ensure that you (and others) might benefit from this spaces and future spaces like this.
Here are some things you could consider:
WHO: who pays your bills/who supports you, whose bills do you pay for/who do you support, who benefits from your financial access currently, and who could your financial access benefit
WHAT: what expenses do you have coming up (if any), what are you able to spare (if any), what are you able to sacrifice (if any)
WHY: why might you need or want to save money, why do you have financial privilege (if you do), why are you or aren't you motivated to contribute to a community outside of yourself
