Third Thursdays Poetry: Open Mic
About this Event
In person at Brookline Booksmith! Join us for an evening of poetry featuring YOU!
This event is part of Third Thursdays Poetry, a monthly reading series at Brookline Booksmith.
Register for the event!
READ AT THE MIC by selecting the ticket type "RSVP + Mic Sign Up." Each reader will have 3 minutes to share a poem. If the ticket type is unavailable that means slots are full, but we will have a waitlist for attendees to add their name to in case there is time at the end for more readers.
RSVP to let us know you're coming! Depending on the volume of responses, an RSVP may be required for entrance to the event. You will also be alerted to important details about the program, including safety requirements, cancellations, and book signing updates.
Third Thursdays Poetry: November
You've asked and we answered! This month's Third Thursdays Poetry will be an poetry open mic featuring our community. Sign up to read through the Eventbrite page. If sign-ups fill, there will be a waitlist folks can add their name to in person at the event; if there is time after the inital readers, we will pull names from the waitlist.
This Open Mic is a bit of an experiment—if it goes well we may do more in the future! In order to ensure events like this are possible, please be mindful of the following ground rules:
- Be respectful of the store and people browsing! We will be using the usual Booksmith event space, and there will be customers browsing nearby in the store and checking out at the registers who are not participating in the event.
- Consent is key! Please avoid slurs or sexually explicit content and use trigger warnings for difficult subject matter. While we are not interested in limiting what you have to say with your work, there will be people in the store who did not sign up to attend the mic (including young people!), so please be considerate of those folks.
- No photos or videos without consent of those reading! Sharing original writing is vulnerable, and we want people to share that work on their own terms.
- Respect other readers! Engage in active listening and be supportive as folks are on stage—sharing poetry in front of others is a brave thing. Claps, snaps, and supportive words are encouraged, just keep it at a volume that respects other customers in the space.
- NO AI-generated work! We want to hear from YOU—share your human art!
- Please note that Brookline Booksmith has a strict policy against abusive behavior and language, and at our discretion any attendee can be removed from an event for such behavior.
