Making a list and checking it twice, we’ve got gifts for everyone at the Museum Store, plus we will be open late on December 18, for Old Sacramento Waterfront’s Third Thursday. Laurie Roper from our Living History program will host free demonstrations of the art of tatting. Enjoy the fun and create an original tatted lace ornament for your tree or give it to a friend. Better yet, bring a friend and both make this beautiful craft for the holiday.Tatting originated in the early 19th century. It is lacework made with fine thread and a shuttle, essentially knot-making. The art of tatting likely evolves from older knotting techniques used by sailors. This is one craft machines cannot replicate – it is a portable hand craft perfect for those who like fidget toys and something easy to travel.
Demonstrations begin at 4pm and the Museum will close at 8pm that evening. Enjoy the crafting, and view the exhibitions at the Sacramento History Museum.
