Third Thursdays Poetry: October
George Abraham (they/هو) is a Palestinian American poet, essayist, critic, performance artist. A two-time Arab American Book Awardee, they are the author of When the Arab Apocalypse Comes to America (Haymarket, 2027) and Birthright (Button Poetry, 2020). They are the Editor-at-Large of Mizna, and co-editor of Homosexual Intifada (Interlink Books, 2026) and HEAVEN LOOKS LIKE US: Palestinian Poetry (Haymarket, 2025) which was long-listed for the Palestine Book Award. They are a graduate of Northwestern’s Litowitz MFA+MA program, and teach at Amherst College as a Writer-in-Residence.
Jess Rizkallah is a Lebanese poet and visual artist. Her book the magic my body becomes won the Etel Adnan Poetry Prize as awarded by the Radius of Arab-American writers and University of Arkansas Press. Her zines include IF LUV IS A CHEMICAL SO WHAT WHO CARES, and ANYWAY. She was a 2022 Massachusetts Cultural Council Artist Fellow. Jess Yuan is a poet, educator, and architect. She is the author of Slow Render (2024), winner of the Airlie Prize, and the chapbook Threshold Amnesia (2020), winner of the Yemassee Chapbook Contest. Jess is a Kundiman fellow and holds an MFA from the Johns Hopkins Writing Seminars. Her writing received the Gulf Coast Poetry Prize, and appears in Best New Poets, New England Review, AGNI, and elsewhere. She is the Director of Intermediate Studios at Boston Architectural College.
leena aboutaleb is an Egyptian and Palestinian writer who asks you to commit to the Palestinian liberation struggle. She is the author of THALASSA (Game Over Books, 2026). Her pamphlet, Expeditions of Projection, was released in 2023 (VIBE). Her film, ‘Oracle,’ co-produced with Youssef ElNahas debuted in Venice, 2025. Read her work at www.leenaboutaleb.onl.
