About this Event

Le français suivra. Cet évènement se tiendra en anglais seulement.

This workshop explores research pathways that require working with Indigenous and Palestinian interventions in visual storytelling. Working alongside artists and filmmakers, we examine how creative practice decenters extractive research methodologies and reframes questions of temporality, archive, and embodied knowledge.

You will engage with three articles, representing solo and collaborative writing, and gain a glimpse into decolonial and ethnographic research practices. These articles explore how artists utilize narratives and everyday objects as portals connecting temporalities and geographical spaces. Soil, the pantry, and origin stories become sites where Palestine and exile, Indigenous sovereignties and settler colonial texts, converge and speak back. The articles examine how Indigenous filmmakers subvert dominant cultural narratives and how scholars navigate collaborative framing with accountability as a guiding compass. Central to all three is attention to process itself: what's behind the scenes, the labor that makes knowledge production possible, and how this reshapes our understanding of research practice.

Through collaborative discussion of these texts and the visual works they explore, we invite participants to bring a brief introduction of their own research area or active project. Together, we'll explore how decolonial frameworks might inform your work by centering the labor, ideas, and archival materials that artists offer, attending to what's behind the scenes, the process itself as method, and the interventions that recenter where and how knowledge is held.
