At this free event, learn how protecting playas (ephemeral wetlands) benefit agricultural fields through water conservation and improved soil health. Dr. Lindsey Slaughter, Associate Professor of Soil Microbial Ecology/Biochemistry, will provide an overview of playa soil structure and landscape benefits, and participants will get an up-close view of an undisturbed playa in the Texas Tech Erskine Rangeland. Wear your walking boots! A Q&A session, led by Soil Health Educator Jessica Kelton, will feature cotton producer and SHI Farmer Mentor Barry Evans; Dr. Darryl Birkenfeld, Executive Director of Ogallala Commons; and Dr. Slaughter offering valuable insights and perspectives. Lunch is provided but space is limited, so please RSVP!
