About this Event

Interested in growing food and how this can be done in urban environments? Have great ideas you want to share about increasing access to healthy, home-grown foods in Clayton? Never heard of urban agriculture and just want to learn more?

Join us for this workshop in which we will begin to co-create a prototype urban food system. This will be a workshop to discuss ideas, build models, and draw your vision for the ideal future of food growing in Clayton.

This is part one of two co-creation sessions. To get the full experience, we hope you will join us for both workshops, however, attendance at both isn’t essential.

Lunch will be provided.

Each participant will receive £25 per workshop, up to a total of £50, as a ‘thank you’ for giving your time to the project.

About:

This workshop is part of the ‘Think it – Make it – Grow it’ project, which puts local people at the very centre of the design process to bring food production closer to home, which is ultimately designed by you! The session will be a maximum of six hours long including refreshment and lunch breaks.

The workshops are a great way to learn more about growing food in your town and community, and to meet people in your local area who share similar interests.

The events will be led by Dr Andy Jenkins from the University of Salford, who is an expert in urban agriculture, alongside other expertise from the University of Salford, Queen’s University Belfast, Northern Roots, and UpPlant.

Key Information

  • This workshop is free
  • Lunch will be provided.
  • It will take place at The Resonance Centre, which has a small half step at the entrance.
  • By attending one of the sessions, there is no commitment to join the whole series, however we hope you will keep wanting to come back!
  • You must over 18 to sign up. However younger people are welcome (but must be accompanied by an adult)
  • If your plans change and you can no longer attend, please cancel your ticket as this will allow us to allocate it to somebody else.

Future Sessions:

During the second workshop, we will refine our design for a prototype food system in Clayton, resulting in a final design to be constructed.

This will take place on Thursday 20th June.

There will be an opportunity to visit the Maker Space at the University of Salford during the ‘maker week’ to help construct the final food system in July. All participants will be emailed about this closer to the time.

There will also be a celebration event when the design is installed in the community in July/August. This will be an open event with no need to book. All participants will be emailed about this closer to the time.
