On 21st November, Claudia will take us on a tour of the newest thinking on The Psychology of Siblings with insights from psychologists from the University of Sussex: Professor Gilly Forrester, Professor Alison Pike & Dr Sophie Zade.
The panel will discuss everything from the evolution of sibling relationships using animal models …to how nature and nurture influence sibling connections today. They will also explore the intense complexities surrounding seeking out donor siblings (aka ‘diblings’). Enjoy an evening of cutting-edge science with an interactive Q&A.
Our host Claudia Hammond is well known for presenting “All in the Mind” on BBC Radio 4 which covers psychology, neuroscience & mental health. She is Visiting Professor of the Public Understanding of Psychology at the University of Sussex.
Ali Pike is a child and family psychologist. Her research focuses what makes siblings growing up in the same family often turn out so differently to one another, and handling sibling conflict. Ali has appeared as an expert on the “Secret Lives of 4, 5, & 6-year-olds”, and the “Secret Lives of Brothers & Sisters”.
Sophie Zadeh is a family psychologist whose research focuses on families formed through assisted reproduction (e.g., sperm donation, egg donation, and surrogacy). She is interested in the experiences and outcomes of parents and children, including adult children, in these families.
Gilly Forrester is an evolutionary and developmental psychologist. She researches with great apes and babies, studying how our minds and behaviour evolved and develop over time.
