Similar to last year, feel free to extend your trip beyond the official dates of this trip, however accommodation will need to be found on your own for "unofficial" days.
This event is not limited to those planning to hit the slopes. The Tahoe area has many options for non skiiers/snowboarders as well including ice skating, snowshoeing, lake access (yes even in winter!), gambling, etc.
