About this Event
TheroMancers
TheroMancers is a duo exploring the sonic possibilities of the Theremin. Featuring Ruth Clinton (Landless, Poor Creature) & Natalia Beylis (Woven Skull), their live set has been described as being dipped into 'a discombobulating sound bath'.
Willie Stewart & Danny McCarthy
Willie Stewart is a percussionist, filmmaker and record label owner based in Co Leitrim, Ireland. Through never ending exposure to creative people and eccentric animals and to the subtle music of the great planet earth, he has adopted a free improvisational and circular rhythmic style of drumming which is more akin to sound than rhythm. With a minimal kit set up of drums and found objects, he enjoys wondering what things that can be banged on have to offer. He has been known to sit and talk to a photograph of Milford Graves with his morning coffee.
Danny Mccarthy studied at the National College of Art and Design. Currently lectures in sound art, improvisation and listening as part of the MA in Experimental Sound Practice , Music Dept. University College Cork and is visiting lecturer and workshop facilitator in numerous other art institutions.
He has pioneered both sound art, improvisation and performance art in Ireland and he continues to be a leading exponent exhibiting and performing both in Ireland and abroad regularly.
In 2006 he founded The Quiet Club (with Mick O’Shea) a floating membership sound art improvisation performance group and have presented works all over Ireland and internationally including USA, China, Japan, Poland, Canada, Germany and more. He has founded several festivals including INTERMEDIA, Sonic Vigil, Site Of Sound and been a member of several groups including Strange Attractor, The Barflies Of Osaka, Cork Free Improvisers Orchestra. He has released numerous CDs, Vinyls and Cassettes on various labels. His works are regularly broadcast on radio and he is represented by CMC (Contemporary Music Centre).A new CD with sleeve notes by David Toop and Sr. Eleanor Campion entitled “Haunted By Silence” is due for release on Farpoint Recordings shortly.
