• ARTIST STATEMENT
“There’ s More to See” is a group of oil paintings that draw from the banal, intimate, and domestic areas of my life. The works in the series offer observational studies of my day-to-day through still life and interior works.
The objects depicted, mocha pots and florals, are studies for the larger finished interior paintings in the show. Through repetition and observation, the mocha pots and florals gain their own personalities and attitudes – revealing themselves to me the more time I spend with them. I view these objects and spaces as an extension of myself, my life, like a self-portrait or documentary which captures these fleeting moments in time.
The peripheral space around the objects I paint tend to be liminal and undefined. I have intentionally dissolved the details that I do not find as important as the subject at hand; these objects are representations of the omitted people that interact with them. My hope is that through my work, you are able to see aspects of myself in the items I value and make space for. They are not random objects thrown together, they are the culmination of waking up every day, living, and painting what I see.
• ARTIST BIO
Baylee’s oil paintings offer a tender glimpse into the sacred and everyday — capturing intimate objects and the spaces she resides through both studio and plein air approaches.
Baylee graduated from Creighton University in 2023 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in studio art and art history. Her work has been exhibited at the Radial Arts Center, Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, Creighton University, and the Hot Shops Art Gallery in Omaha. Additionally, her work has been shown at the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Baylee is currently a resident artist at Radial Arts Center and works at the Joslyn Art Museum as both a Teaching Artist and a Kent Bellows Mentor.
