A creative workshop with discussion, making and food with Owen Griffiths
About this Event

This is an immersive meal and workshop at Ope cafe with artist Owen Griffiths. We will gather to use a toolkit developed by Owen and Alessandra Saviotti to explore ideas of the food systems, ocean health, climate and food resilience whilst having a collective meal together. This toolkit takes the form of a tablecloth, together with props and prompts we will have a collective conversation on the ideas of ocean climate justice.

We’ll then reflect on how we could map these methods, findings of the toolkit to plan our own toolkit for There is no new water…

A special menu of seafood and vegan options will be prepared for you by the team at Ope as we navigate a collective conversation about the project and its potential.

Together we will discuss:

  • Ocean Justice
  • Art as a tool for social change
  • What will our toolkit look like? What does it need to ask?
  • Key questions
  • Climate and connection to landscape (blue and green)

*There will be food and drinks as part of the session. Please let us know of any dietary requirements.*

This session is part of an on-going enquiry with Owen Griffiths as part of There is No New Water – Toolkit for Ocean Citizen Action. This 10-month project invites local people to explore what the ocean means to them, reflect on their role as coastal citizens, and co-create a community-led artwork/toolkit focused on ocean justice, care, and climate action.

All sessions are free and open to anyone based in Plymouth who is passionate about Ocean Civic Justice and happy to spend time in the East End.

Ocean Cultures is a two-year programme funded by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, aiming to establish a community-led model for ocean climate justice in Plymouth, UK.
