TherapyWA's Bowls Fundraiser

This event marks the first fundraising event for TherapyWA's 'Therapy to Thrive' Initiative.

'Therapy to Thrive' is an initiative to help provide free therapy services to those in need across Western Australia.

Therapy WA looks after adults and children with disabilities in Western Australia, taking care of their physiotherapy, rehabilitation, and support needs. Our clients include those with spinal cord injury, stroke, acquired brain injury, cerebral palsy, amputees, and intellectual disability - to name a few. We also look after children with disabilities including Down’s Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Although NDIS provides funding for those with disabilities and additional needs, this funding often does not allow for those with rehabilitation needs to receive the input they require to improve their quality of life and ability to carry out everyday tasks, things the able population may take for granted. In addition to this, funding is not adequate and often runs out, leaving the person with no input whatsoever for their rehabilitation needs.

With the appropriate help and rehabilitation input, those with disabilities can make a significant improvement in function, allowing them to integrate into everyday life and community, and lead a normal and fulfilled life.

Our roles as physiotherapists, therapy assistants and support workers are to help those with additional needs to achieve these improvements and reach their goals. When funding is not available, not approved, or runs out, often those who are close to achieving their goals or improving their daily living situation are left behind, as their rehabilitation ceases. Often, physiotherapy is the only input they receive, and a source of hope that things can get better, and life can become a little easier. By taking this away, it can lead to feelings of hopelessness and a decline in mental health as all support, progress, and rehabilitation ceases.

We want to do all we can to help with this, and so have decided to set up this fundraiser so that those who require treatment can access it. If you can help in any way, no matter how small, it would make a very big difference to those who need it.
