Theorizing Abolition: Past, Present, Future

The Department of African and Black Diaspora Studies presents: Theorizing Abolition: Past, Present, Future on Wednesday, March 5th at 5:00PM in Arts & Letters Hall room 103.

In this lecture, Dr. Samantha Davis, Ida B. Wells Postdoctoral Fellow in ABD, will discuss abolition by examining the 19th-century Abolitionist Movement and contemporary abolition movements, including Pr*son, debt and others in the United States. Davis will discuss abolition’s evolution, and its expressions across time, space, gender, and class. She analyzes abolition as both an idea and a movement, offering critical frameworks for understanding social injustice while examining how abolition persists, evolves, and informs contemporary activism.
