Arkansas native Dr. Andrew Flory will present a theorbo recital at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral on Sunday, August 24th at 4 pm. Theorbo is the largest instrument in the lute family and was popular during the Baroque era. Don’t miss this unusual opportunity to hear this rare and beautiful instrument! This concert is free and unticketed, with a reception following the performance. Dr. Flory will also perform works by Purcell and Blow with the Trinity Choir in church that Sunday morning at 10:30.
Dr. Andrew Flory is a theorbo player, lutenist, classical guitarist, and educator. He is currently the Vice President of the Lute Society of America and is on the LSA Education Committee. In 2024, Andrew received his Doctor of Musical Arts in Classical Guitar Performance, Certificate of Advanced Achievement in Early Music, and Performer’s Certificate in Classical Guitar from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. As a multi-instrumentalist and Early music specialist, Andrew captivates audiences around the world with his colorful and nuanced musicality in his repertoire that spans over 500 years, across many instruments. Along with his solo career, Andrew is a veteran continuo player with years of experience playing with the Eastman School of Music Collegium Musicum Baroque Orchestra and the Schola Cantorum at Christ Church in Rochester, NY.
Andrew performs across the US and abroad as both a soloist and as a continuo player. Notable recent performances include a West Coast Tour of the US in 2024, performances and lectures for the University of Arkansas, the Muziekeducatie Festival in Belgium, Connecticut Guitar Guild, Rochester Classical Guitar, and the Great Lakes Guitar Society.
