We have pulled one out of the bag for our FESTIVAL SPECIAL, as we continue to bring new, local, legendary, and top-tier international DJs to our wee night at Leith Arches. Victor Simonelli squarely fits in the latter category.
The legendary New York producer and DJ will grace the decks for a two-hour set for our Edinburgh Late Finish special on Friday, 9th August.
Victor is one of the early pioneers of the unique NYC underground house music movement & is still current, releasing new tracks and DJing Throughout the world!
His production, writing, mixing, and editing credits, as well as his discography, read like a "who's who" of modern music.
Victor was intimately involved in the formation of Northcott’s Sub-Urban Records, for whom he recorded countless classics, usually in collaboration with Tommy Musto under the legendary TMVS moniker, creating epics in 1993 like “Don’t Be Shy” and producing monsters like Federal Hill's 1995 smash “I Have Something For You.” All this before starting his own stable of imprints, including Bassline and Big Big Trax. More recently, he started his Stellar and West Side labels, mixing his own productions with work by other producers.
Victor has worked on production, mix, and edit projects for icons including David Bowie, Michael Jackson, James Brown, Will Downing, Talking Heads, Quincy Jones, Deborah Harry, Sinead O'Connor, and Al Jarreau. His influence on the music industry is profound and far-reaching.
In addition to these icons, Victor has also collaborated with dance-based artists such as Jocelyn Brown, Robert Owens, BeBe and CeCe Winans, Yvonne Turner, Boyd Jarvis, Gwen Guthrie, Hamilton Bohannon, Martha Wash, and Sabrina Johnston. His work has significantly shaped the dance music genre.
Victor has also been instrumental in cultivating new talent. One of his notable achievements includes mentoring Kings of Tomorrow/Sandy Rivera, whose first remix ever was for Victor. His impact on both established artists and emerging talents is remarkable. Moreover, his own productions helped form the foundations of the house music scene that we know, love, and enjoy today!
