One of the things that makes movies so exciting is the combat and the violence in the script. Being able to put together a good fight scene for a production is a skill that can make or break that production. Whether you are watching period piece like The Three Musketeers, or a fantasy work like The Witcher, or something more modern like John Wick, a well choreographed fight will help you to better appreciate the art or help you to create it if you are an actor, a fan, or a director of the piece.
Whether the audience has any experience or skill in a style of fight that is in a movie or stage production, they can 'feel' if something is right or not in the interaction of the characters. Things like, 'why didn't he attack there?', or ' that didn't even look like a real attack'. The reason for a fight, or violence, sequence in the show is to forward the story and develop the characters. If a fight is put into a movie and the choreographer makes the sequence about the fight and not about the characters it can take the audience out of the moment and distract from the final product.
In this class we are going to work on a sequence of actions that can teach an actor of any level of experience how to safely choreograph and perform a fight sequence. We will be working on actions with swords, knives, and hand to hand with the pattern that we use and the student can see how to create and practice a good fight scene.
We will also spend time working with fire arms. We have airsoft guns here that we will use. We will start with safety and then movement individually and as a team.
This workshop is good for anyone of any skill level. Whether you currently work in movies, TV, or stage, or if you are a fan of movies like John Wick, The Three Musketeers, or The Witcher we will show you how to create, practice, and perform a fight sequence with different tools.
I have been creating theatrical violence since 1999 for stage and screen. You can see the things I've worked on at https://www.swordfightingschool.com/steaphen
