Adapted from Marguerite Duras’ novel by Maud Andrieux, this play follows a French mother in 1930s Indochina as she fights to protect her crops from the encroaching waters. It’s a story of resistance against injustice, but also a powerful call to action and a reminder to chase our dreams.

Au retour d'un premier voyage au Vietnam en 2003, Maud rencontre l'écriture de Marguerite Duras, c'est un véritable bouleversement littéraire. Cette écriture simple, répétitive et cinématographique lui donne envie d'adapter le roman de 400 pages pour un seul en scène. Elle interprète Suzanne dans Un barrage contre le Pacifique en 2004. Elle débute alors une carrière internationale en jouant cette pièce en France puis en Asie du sud-est, en Turquie et au Maroc dans le réseau des Instituts Français.

Elle découvre que sa passion pour cette écriture particulière, intéresse particulièrement les étudiants apprenant le français à l'étranger. La simplicité et la rythmique des mots facilite le travail d'apprentissage et donne accès à l'histoire fondamentale qui lie l'Indochine et la France mais aussi celle de l'auteure. Elle adapte, met en scène et interprète les romans de Duras depuis près de 17 ans en France et à l'étranger (Vietnam, Cambodge, Népal, Inde, Italie, Turquie, Maroc, Canada...). Maud Andrieux est membre de La Société Internationale Marguerite Duras et régulièrement programmée lors des Rencontres Duras de Trouville où elle a notamment interprété L'Eté 80, Autour d'Anne-Marie Stretter, Le Cambodge de MD, La Vie Matérielle...

Upon returning from a first trip to Vietnam in 2003, Maud discovered the writings of Marguerite Duras, which was a true literary revelation. This simple, repetitive, and cinematographic style made her want to adapt the 400-page novel for a one-woman show. She played Suzanne in Un barrage contre le Pacifique in 2004. She then began an international career by performing this play in France, then in Southeast Asia, Turkey, and Morocco within the network of French Institutes.

She discovered that her passion for this particular style of writing especially interested students learning French abroad. The simplicity and rhythm of the words facilitated the learning process and provided access to the fundamental history linking Indochina and France, as well as that of the author. She has been adapting, directing, and performing Duras's novels for nearly 17 years in France and abroad (Vietnam, Cambodia, Nepal, India, Italy, Turkey, Morocco, Canada...). Maud Andrieux is a member of La Société Internationale Marguerite Duras and is regularly featured at the Rencontres Duras de Trouville, where she has notably performed L'Eté 80, Autour d'Anne-Marie Stretter, Le Cambodge de MD, La Vie Matérielle, and more.
