The Theater Department of Community High School presents The Comedy of Errors, William Shakespeare’s brilliant farce of mistaken identities and fabulous wordplay, Friday, May 17 and Saturday, May 18. Performances begin at 7:30 pm in the June M. McBroom Theater. Based on an ancient Roman comedy, Plautus’ Menaechmi, The Comedy of Errors begins in the port city of Ephesus, where a Syracusan merchant, Egeon, has accidently come ashore. The Duke of Ephesus notes laws prohibit Syracusans from entering Ephesus on the penalty of death. Egeon shares his search for his lost son Antipholus and his servant Dromio. Seven years earlier Antipholus set out to find his brother and mother both lost in a shipwreck. Taking pity on Egeon, the Duke offers the old man 24 hours to find a ransom for his life or it will be forfeit. Might there be a second Antipholus roaming Ephesus? Worse, could there be a second Dromio? Madness and mayhem ensues. The Comedy of Errors is rated G and is recommended for audiences 9 and up.
