Join us for an electrifying evening of live jazz with the Young–Olson Quintet, featuring two powerhouse saxophonists whose artistry blends swing, soul, and modern imagination. This dynamic ensemble brings together seasoned mastery and fresh creative energy—promising an unforgettable night of groove, virtuosity, and spontaneity for jazz lovers of all kinds.
The quintet features Matt Olson, Professor of Saxophone and Director of Jazz Studies at Furman University, a Conn-Selmer and D’Addario Endorsing Artist whose career spans performances with icons such as Randy Brecker, Kurt Elling, Benny Carter, Aretha Franklin, the Temptations, the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, and many more. His tours have taken him everywhere from the Montréal Jazz Festival to Carnegie Hall, and his acclaimed recordings—including projects with the Unhinged Sextet—highlight his expressive range and deep musical insight. A respected educator, writer, and clinician, Olson is celebrated nationwide for his artistic versatility and inspiring mentorship.
Sharing the stage is Adib Young, a rising saxophone voice praised by All About Jazz for his “sharp and engaging” creativity. A Furman graduate and former student of Olson, Adib holds both M.M. and D.M.A. degrees in Jazz Performance from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where he performed with leading international artists and contributed arrangements published by Hal Leonard. As a performer, composer, and educator, he bridges jazz tradition with contemporary expression, bringing a warm, personal tone and a fearless improvisational spirit to every performance.
Don’t miss this thrilling night of modern jazz artistry—performed by two generations of exceptional saxophonists shaping the future of the genre.
