This event is a one-day symposium that will feature a number of fascinating papers examining the lives and work of Susan and Elizabeth Yeats.


Morning Session:


‘The making of beautiful things': from William and May Morris to Susan and Elizabeth Yeats

Helen Elletson, Research Curator at the William Morris Society, London


“Evelyn Gleeson, the Dun Emer Guild, and the Irish Arts and Crafts movement”

Beatrice Kelly, Cultural Heritage expert and strategist (formerly The Heritage Council)


“Elizabeth Corbet Yeats and the Dun Emer Press: Irish, British and Transatlantic Connections”

Dr Caoilfhionn Ní Bheacháin, Associate Professor in Communications, University of Limerick.


Lunch. A light lunch will be provided to all attendees.



Afternoon session


Two separate events


Workshop with the Irish Guild of Embroiderers:

An introductory one-hour workshop hosted by the Irish Guild of Embroiderers exploring the approach and style of Susan Yeats.

or

A guided walking tour of the Yeats’ life in Churchtown/Dundrum with local historian and in collaboration with dlr Dundrum Library and the Church of Ireland Taney parish.


Early researchers’ platform:

‘"The education of the work-girls": Evaluating Dún Emer’s educational objective through the literary and visual material of Leabhar Dún Éimire.’
