About this Event
Join walk leader Manasi Pophale of @historyspeak to discover the untold stories of 24 statues that once stood on the Upper Terrace in Crystal Palace Park – the area where the Sphinxes are now.
These lost statues represented ‘the most important commercial and manufacturing countries of the world and the chief industrial cities of England and France.’ Now they offer a fascinating insight into a world view from the days when the Crystal Palace opened in Sydenham in 1854.
Manasi will lead an illustrated walk along the Upper Terrace revealing the statues that once stood there. The walk will highlight how Empire, Race and Nation were represented. Refreshments will be provided at The Paxton Centre where the there will be time for reflection and to view archive images close up.
