Become a water scientist these school holidays as you explore water bugs at Lake Penhalluriack, in the Eureka Memorial Gardens
About this Event

We’re going on a water bug hunt! Dive into the world of water science these school holidays with the Corangamite Catchment Management Authority’s (CMA) River Detectives program at Lake Penhalluriack, located in the Eureka Memorial Gardens. Discover fascinating creatures living beneath the surface as you search for macroinvertebrates – tiny animals without backbones that play a big role in waterway health.

Using field testing kits, you’ll investigate what these small but mighty creatures can tell us about the condition of our local water environment. It’s a hands-on adventure where you can explore, learn and unleash your inner biologist!

This activity is delivered by Corangamite Catchment Management Authority’s (CMA) River Detectives program. By sampling and identifying water bugs, students gain a deeper understanding of freshwater ecosystems and develop a sense of care and responsibility for their local waterways.

Perfect for children aged 6–12 years. Participants must be supervised by an adult guardian or carer. All equipment provided. Wet weather clothing including gumboots are recommended.

River Detectives and the Corangamite CMA Citizen Science program are supported by Central Highlands Water.

$5 child. Accompanying adults free of charge.
