About this Event
Botanical extracts of whole plant parts are nature’s Ph*rm*cy, providing a vast array of chemical constituents that work in synergy to enhance health and mitigate disease. Individual phytochemicals are often identified as the major therapeutic component of a plant and therefore scientifically investigated to provide the research for new medicine development. While these singular constituents may provide therapeutic benefit in specific clinical presentations, they can be associated with issues involving toxicity and safety, reduced absorption capacity, microbiota species reduction, and plant sustainability.
This presentation will cover the research and clinical efficacy behind the use of whole-part botanical extracts versus singular constituents (e.g. Coptis chinensis rhizome Vs berberine), the concept of synergy compared to reductionism, and how we can utilise our critical thinking to apply this knowledge in clinical practice.
