About The Wild Beneath:

THE WILD BENEATH opens with a naked man who washes ashore after a devasting tsunami kills Annie’s parents and decimates her town. Walker has a sound that only she can hear –and he holds a secret about who she really is. Annie becomes enamored with this mysterious stranger but her flame with and her childhood love, Evan, still burns steady. But then Walker dies in a storm at sea, just like her parents.

Six years later, Annie has moved away from the ocean, is working as a doctor in the city, taking antidepressants and grinding herself to dust with work; she hears Walker’s mysterious sound again and travels back home to see whether he’s still alive and where she really came from.

Partially inspired by the author’s life, Kelly lived by the ocean as a little girl, then left it behind and become an award-winning physician who has treated over 70,000 patients in her career. She was nearly swallowed up by the hustle and grind, until this story came to her, essentially in a fever dream, and she promptly changed her whole life.

Kelly Anderson champions the natural world, the power of the sea, and the very adult tendency of losing touch with the things that are most important to us.

About Kelly Anderson:

Dr. Kelly Anderson is a physician with fellowships in emergency medicine and HIV. She completed the Bookends Novel Fellowship, the Gateless Writing Academy, and is a certified Gateless writing teacher.

She led writing courses for over two thousand women inside her award-winning nonprofit, Understory, designed to bring doctors back to themselves and their instincts. She spent fifteen years working in the Inner City Family Health Team at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto, and built the clinical team at Felix Health.

Kelly spent much of her childhood in British Columbia, and now lives in Guelph, Ontario with her husband and sons.

The Wild Beneath is her first novel.
