About this Event
The outbreak of War witnessed on a Cornish beach, the secret organisation of auxiliary forces on the Mendips, evacuees from bombed out Filton, the toll of the blitz in Bristol and Exeter, the astonishing story of a black GI in Bath and the devastating accident that killed nine youngsters on a cricket pitch in Somerset. The West Country was embroiled in WW2 in ways unparalleled in history.
Remarkably, some amateur movie makers captured this ‘people’s war’ on film and many of their films have found their way into television programmes made by David Parker. To mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War Two David will be showing film clips from programmes that tell extraordinary stories of people's lives on the home front, ordinary lives lived through the most extraordinary times.
This is a fund raising event for the North Bristol and South Gloucestershire Food Bank. All monies raised go to helping support the work of the food bank.
There is a cafe on the site, disabled access and free parking
