The Weight of Words (In Person, Taunton)

A compassionate, whole-family approach to healthier lifestyles for Somerset workforce

A session to support with knowledge and skills in the compassionate approach to weight and how to have compassionate conversations with families around healthier lifestyles.

Who is this for?

We welcome all staff who are working within the health and public sector in Somerset, including NHS staff, GP's, health visitors, teachers, early years practitioners, foster teams, social care and those working in voluntary and community sector organisations.

Core content will include:

• An overview of the compassionate approach to weight and healthier lifestyles
• Understanding the complexities of obesity and overweight
• The impact of weight stigma
• How to have compassionate and trauma-informed conversations around healthier lifestyles
• How to take a whole family approach in supporting changes towards healtheir lifestyles

Our collective aim is to promote compassionate, consistent, and non-judgemental interactions around weight and healthier lifestyle for our Somerset population.

This workshop is hosted by SPLASH (Somerset Paediatric Lifestyle Activity and Skills for Self-help)

Getting here and parking

Pay and display parking is available at Victoria Gate carpark. Address is: Victoria Gate Car Park, Victoria Gate, Taunton, TA1 3ES

Arriving by Car:

If you are traveling south on the M5 exit at junction 25 take the 4th exit onto Toneway, (if travelling North on the M5 it is the second exit). Carry on down Toneway and at the end of Toneway at the roundabout take the first left, at the traffic lights go straight and as you pass the Volkswagen garage take the first turning right into Victoria Gate Car Park.

Park and Ride:

Taunton Park and Ride services run Monday to Saturday every 15 minutes from Ruishton gateway (just off junction 25 ) to Silk Mills (just off Wellington Road ). You will need the PR1 timetable (First Bus).

Arriving by Bus:

There are 2 bus stops directly opposite and next to the Hub which are serviced by the Number 21/21A and number 4 bus. Go to the website below for the current timetable.

Please note: Access to the building is via the rear entrance.

To locate this entrance, use the gate to the left of the building and follow the perimeter of the building to the far end of the staff car park.

For those requiring step-free access, there is also a disabled access ramp around to the rear, accessible through this gate.
