The world’s twelve richest billionaires hold more wealth than the poorest half of humanity combined. The forty richest billionaires increased their fortunes by nearly $95 billion in one year, while millions face rising costs and growing economic pressures.
The rapidly widening divide between the ultra-rich and everybody else is reshaping Canadian life—from the price of homes and groceries to the future of our communities, economy, and democracy.
At The Walrus Talks The Billionaire Problem, leading thinkers will explore the forces driving the concentration of economic power in Canada and beyond. From taxation and policy to outsized corporate influence, resource extraction, and affordability, speakers will look at how the wealth gap shapes decisions that affect our future.
As a historic transfer of wealth approaches between generations, join us in Toronto or online for an increasingly urgent conversation about the impacts of extreme wealth concentration, as well as some ideas and policies that could help build a national economy where everyone can thrive.
