The View rocketed on to the UK music scene in the mid-noughties, fresh-faced and ready for RockânâRoll, immediately earning comparisons to contemporaries like The Libertines and The Courteeners. With ramshackle charm, along with tunes to conquer indie charts and hearts, they quickly catapulted to number one with their debut album âHats Off To The Buskersâ.
One of the biggest albums of 2007, it went platinum selling over 300,000 copies and earning the four school friends from Dundee a Mercury Prize nomination. âHats Off To Buskersâ also took The View into the singles charts with the #3 smash and instant indie classic âSame
Jeansâ plus the Top 20 hits âWasted Little DJsâ and âSuperstar Tradesmanâ. As their star continued to rise nationally, The View took home the gong for Best Track in 2007 at the NME Awards for âWasted Little DJâsâ.
Building View-mania saw the band invited to perform internationally, making appearances in America, Australia and mainland Europe. Two of their subsequent four albums âWhich Bitch?â and âCheeky For A Reasonâ - also reached the Top 10, while their previous set, âRopewalkâ, was produced by Albert Hammond Jr. of The Strokes.
The View also released the âSeven Year Setlistâ compilation, which featured numerous other live staples and fan favourites such as âGraceâ, â5 Rebbeccaâsâ, âShock Horrorâ and âHow Longâ.
A high-octane decade followed during which The View barely let up, careering through rock ânâ roll on-and-off stage, eventually leading to a decision to take a break.
5 years on from their departure gig at Dundeeâs Caird Hall, original members Kyle Falconer (vocals/guitar), Kieran Webster (bass/vocals) and Pete Reilly (guitar) signed with Creation Managementâs Alan McGee and went on to reunite for a sold-out run of shows in the O2 Academy Glasgow in December 2022.
New material produced by Grammy award-winning Youth Martin (The Verve, The Charlatans) was released last year on Cooking Vinyl. The latest album is the product of the band writing and recording with Youth at Space Mountain, Granada last summer.
BETTER JOY
Better Joy, the alternative-pop band led by Bria Keely, is a deft fusion of classic and contemporary influences, boldly celebrating the tensions between opposing states. Introversion and extroversion, complexity and simplicity, the literal and the metaphorical are all polarities put under the microscope on the band's forthcoming single âHard To Loveâ.
Influenced by an array of artists including The Cure, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Smiths and contemporary artists such as Fazerdaze, Phoebe Bridgers and The Beaches - Bria revels in exploring the bittersweet beauty of love, through romance, friendships and by examining her relationship with herself.
