The Vampires live at New Morning, Paris

The Vampires have been able to attract worldwide attention through their unique sound. Their music can best be compared to Miles Davis Bitches Brew or the Art Ensemble of Chicago. The four Australians clearly manage to put their own stamp on the sound.

Magazines such as Downbeat Magazine describe The Vampires as “phenomenal” the Guardian praises their “seductive genre-bending creativity” and All About Jazz considers them “pure gold”. Several appearances at well-known festivals in Great Britain Europe and Australia also speak for themselves. The Vampires are also the first instrumental act to receive a nomination for the Australian Music Prize. Their new album Nightjar received the prestigious ARIA Award as the best jazz album of 2023.

The band has released six critically acclaimed albums to date including The Vampires meet Lionel Loueke. Their 2019 release Pacifika marked a return to their original chordless quartet lineup. The album celebrated the band's tenth anniversary and the deep musical connection of its members. It represented the next evolutionary stage of their musical work with the band focusing more on the production aspects of the recordings. In addition the band went on a successful European tour with the album which also included a sold-out concert at the Enjoy Jazz Festival.

Their new album Nightjar allows a new perspective on the band's music through the collaboration with pianist and keyboardist Chris Abrahams. Abrahams - a member of the legendary improvised minimal trio The Necks - brings his sparkling musical approach excellently into the existing dynamics and lifts the band to new heights.
