About this Event
In honor of Constitution Day, the PCWP is bringing University of Pittsburgh School of Law professor David A. Harris to campus to present "The U.S. Constitution: The Greatest Flawed Document Ever Written."
About David A. Harris:
David A. Harris is the Sally Ann Semenko Endowed Chair and Professor of Law at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. He teaches Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, and Evidence, and he also teaches an Inside-Out course at the State Correctional Institution — Greene on criminal justice and law, as well as two Constitutional Law courses at the Pr*son. Professor Harris' research and writing concerns police regulation, search and seizure law, and the intersection of criminal justice and race. He is the leading national authority on racial profiling; his 2002 book "Profiles in Injustice" and his many other publications led the way to laws and rules against profiling in more than two dozen states and hundreds of police departments. His latest book, "A City Divided: Race, Fear and the Law in Police Confrontations" (published in 2020 by Anthem Press) examined a violent confrontation between Pittsburgh police and a young African American man in the Homewood neighborhood, explained why and how these incidents keep happening, and prescribed ways to change policing for the better. He lives in Pittsburgh.
The PCWP gratefully acknowledges Tom and Bonnie VanKirk '81 for their support of this program.
