The Unspoken Rules - Art, Identity and Public Space
Part of the Make Space York project - this session is for girls 12-18
Friday 14th August, 2- 4pm
Rowntree Park
Free to attend – booking required
Join Daisy Age for a creative mixed media workshop exploring the “unspoken rules” that can shape how girls experience outdoor and public spaces.
Using drawing, collage, colour, words and found imagery, participants will work together to create a large collaborative map inspired by the park and the experiences, pressures, feelings and expectations that can exist within public spaces.
Together, explore questions around confidence, visibility, behaviour and belonging, while also creating empowering messages and affirmations that challenge those unspoken rules and celebrate individuality, self-expression and being yourself.
No art experience is needed at all. This is a relaxed, welcoming workshop focused on creativity, conversation and sharing ideas in different ways.
Book places below - please only book if you can attend so others don't miss out (places limited to 12)

Part of a wider creative series
This workshop forms part of a wider series of creative sessions running from May-October, designed to help girls feel more welcome, visible and connected within parks and public spaces. Across the programme, workshops explore themes including:
• Belonging and identity
• Feeling safe in public space
• Power, voice and expression
• Joy, play and friendship
• Nature and connection
• Future visions and design of parks
The creative series is part of the wider Make Space York project and is funded by the LNER Customer and Community Investment Fund, supporting opportunities for girls to shape and connect with their local green spaces.
