About this Event
Come join us for a three-day intensive featuring lectures and reading/workshop sessions on outstanding music of historically excluded composers and populations! This event is appropriate for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as current teachers/conductors/faculty members looking for more DEI resources for concert programming, and music appreciation/choral literature courses. The schedule includes ten lectures, each of which provides an overview of an individual composer, their works and their compositional style and influences. In addition, each day features a reading/workshop session in which attendees will sing through two works by each composer. Composers include Adolphus Hailstork, Marianne Martines, Salomone Rossi, Raffaella/Vittoria Aleotti, Byung-Hee Oh, José Maurício Nunes Garcia, Joy T. Nilo, Louis Lewandowski, Undine Smith Moore and Blas Galindo. The schedule also includes opportunities to socialize and to experience the beauty, culture and food of Tucson, a UNESCO City of Gastronomy.
