About this Event
Come join us for a three-day intensive featuring lectures and reading/workshop sessions on outstanding music of historically excluded composers and populations! This event is appropriate for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as current teachers and faculty members. The schedule includes ten lectures, each of which provides an overview of an individual composer, their works and their compositional style and influences. In addition, each day includes a reading/workshop session in which attendees have the chance to sing through two works by each composer. Featured composers include Adolphus Hailstork, Marianne Martines, Salamone Rossi, Raffaella/Vittoria Aleotti, Byung-Hee Oh, José Maurício Nunes Garcia, Joy T. Nilo, Louis Lewandowski, Undine Smith Moore and Blas Galindo. The schedule also includes opportunities to socialize and to experience the beauty, culture and food of Tucson, a UNESCO City of Gastronomy.
This event will be held in the Steve Eller Dance Theatre (one of fifteen of Arizona’s Greatest Architectural Wonders) on the University of Arizona campus located at 1737 E. University Blvd., Tucson, AZ 85719
