The UNITED lights the Alt Comedy beacon in Rhode Island with the inaugural UNITED Alt Comedy Festival with co-headliners Big Grande and The Sloppy Boys. Featuring morning workshops into an evening filled with improv, sketch and musical comedy, the UACF will highlight local and national alt comedy acts. These national acts will be supported by performances from Pawtucket’s Kismet Improv and the Providence Improv Guild. The UACF begins with two workshops led by members of Big Grande and the Upright Citizens Brigade Improv School in Los Angeles, California. At 11am Ryan Rosenberg will be teaching “Saying Yes & Group Mind” that will focus on the foundational theory of “Yes, and” & support. Then at 2pm, Dan Lippert will lead “Premise Based Improv: Finding Ideas & Initiating Scenes,” which looks at idea generation and beginning scenes with confidence and clarity.
At 5pm there is the Regional Showcase featuring our house team Crotch Davidson of Providence Improv Guild, and Kismet Improv’s musical team POP HEARTS.
Our double headliner show begins at 8pm, featuring the return of the improv mastery of Big Grande, leading into the high energy comedic party-rock stylings of the Sloppy Boys.
The vibes continue to the next evening where we will be holding a 7pm screening of the Sloppy Boys documentary “Blood, Sweat and Beers, or How the Sloppy Boys Made an Album on a Farm in West Texas,” with an exclusive talk back with the band and Director Robert Holguin.
