The Unhooked Negotiator: Somatic Skills for High-Stakes Conversations
About this Event
Most negotiation training focuses on what to say. The Unhooked Negotiator focuses on the hidden pressure pattern that takes over before your next move.
Because the pattern may be negotiating before you are.
Your registration includes two parts:
- A 90-minute in-person somatic pressure lab
- An online private resolution session with Stephanie Dawn Clark
In the lab, you identify and map how pressure affects your body, perception, timing, and next move.
In the private session, we use resolution-level nervous system work to resolve the prediction, trigger, or pressure pattern you identify.
This is not a tactics workshop.
It is not script practice.
It is not traditional role-play.
It is a structured pressure lab plus private resolution work for professionals whose work depends on clear choices inside charged conversations.
Because so many conversations are a negotiation, whether we realize it or not.
Not only contracts, deals, and formal mediations.
A client conversation can be a negotiation.
A boundary can be a negotiation.
A repair attempt can be a negotiation.
A money conversation can be a negotiation.
A moment of silence can be a negotiation.
A disagreement can be a negotiation.
A room full of confidence, urgency, authority, or expectation can be a negotiation.
And before you consciously choose your next move, your nervous system may already be reacting, even without you knowing.
Maybe silence makes you rush.
Maybe disagreement makes you explain.
Maybe authority makes you go blank.
Maybe confidence makes you defer.
Maybe tension makes you soften.
Maybe skepticism makes you push.
Maybe disappointment makes you abandon your position before you realize you moved.
Maybe urgency makes you decide too fast.
Maybe pressure makes you manage the other person instead of staying with what is true.
That moment matters.
Because the move you make from activation is different from the move you make from clarity.
What Happens in the Lab
You’ll move through guided rounds of partner-based pressure cues, with time to notice and journal between each round.
Each round is designed to help you see what happens before your next move.
You may explore pressure through:
Relational position
Eye contact
Silence
Disagreement
Urgency
Authority
Confidence
Expectation
Presence
Proximity
Some rounds may use a more spacious seated position.
Some rounds may place partners directly across from each other.
This allows you to notice how pressure changes when someone is beside you, across from you, quiet, confident, expectant, skeptical, or simply present.
Between rounds, you’ll journal privately so you can begin to map what happened:
What cue affected you?
What changed in your body?
What did your perception do?
What move did your system want to make?
Did you want to explain, soften, push, rush, freeze, defer, withdraw, perform, or regain control?
The goal is not to perform a negotiation.
The goal is to identify the pressure pattern that may already be shaping the negotiation before you speak.
What Happens in the Private Session
The private session is where the work becomes individualized.
You bring what you discovered in the lab: the cue, the pressure response, the automatic impulse, or the moment where your system started moving before you consciously chose.
Together, we use resolution-level nervous system work to resolve the prediction, trigger, or pressure pattern underneath that response.
This is not coaching.
It is not advice.
It is not a debrief.
It is not a review of your whole history.
It is not learning a better script.
The purpose is resolution.
We address the pattern at the level where it is operating, so the same pressure no longer has to produce the same automatic move.
No reliving required.
No performance required.
No need to have the whole story figured out.

What You’ll Leave With
This is not just a workshop.
It is a pressure lab plus private resolution work.
You leave the lab with a map.
You leave the private session having taken one of the pressure patterns from that map into resolution-level work.
After the full offering, the intention is that you leave with:
- A clearer read on the hidden pressure pattern that has been shaping your next move
- A map of the cues that affect your clarity, timing, and perception
- A private resolution session focused on the prediction, trigger, or pressure response you identify
- More space where the automatic move used to happen
- More steadiness before you answer
- More access to your perception when pressure enters the room
- More ability to stay with what is true before you explain, concede, push, soften, freeze, perform, or decide
This is the real edge behind effective communication:
Not just knowing what to say.
Having access to yourself when it matters.
