About this Event

Join us for The Turning: Black Church & Mental Health Conference, a national gathering hosted by Black Mental Health Canada that invites Black faith communities, mental health professionals, survivors, students, and community members into a compassionate conversation about healing, faith, and mental health. This is a space to listen, learn, and grow together as we move from silence and stigma toward understanding and support.

For generations, the Black Church has been a place of strength, survival, prayer, and community care. At the same time, many people have carried pain in silence because mental health struggles were sometimes misunderstood, spiritualized, or treated as a lack of faith.

This conference invites the Church to grow beyond past stigmas and become an even stronger partner in healing. Its message is clear: faith and therapy are not enemies, prayer and treatment can work together, and seeking support does not make anyone less spiritual. Instead, wholeness is sacred work.

Through keynote speakers, panels, breakout sessions, and community dialogue, The Turning will explore topics such as spiritual bypassing, delayed care, trauma, grief, youth mental health, pastoral care, Medic*tion stigma, and church-based mental health ministries.

Taking place on November 26, 2026, at the Holiday Inn Toronto Airport, this event is a call to move from silence to support, from stigma to understanding, and from inherited shame to informed healing. The Turning honors the Church’s legacy of leadership while encouraging a new chapter of compassion, accountability, and growth.
