About this Event

The True Colour of the Cotinus is a global online Botanical Printing initiated by textile artist Elisabeth Viguie Culshaw in May 2020 in the middle of the Covid crisis.

This is an ONLINE PRINT ALONG LIVE ON ZOOM to connect with The True Colour of the Cotinus followers all over the world. During the 6 hours of the workshop we will be printing on paper and fabric as well as extracting pigment.

This will be the online version of the Masterclass happening in Glasgow during The True Colour of the Cotinus workshop on the 9th of Septembre in person to allow keen printers to take part in the Festival of the Cotinus.

During that time, Elisabeth will demonstrate three techniques and leave you some time to make your prints before we get back together to share. She will issue to booked members a full list of ingredients and equipment so you are well prepared. You will be issued with a link and will be able to connect several times during the 6 hours to see the demo and share your results.

This technique is perfect for beginners but you must be able to access Cotinus leaves.

If you have booked for this workshop you will get a chance to connect into a live visit of the Cotinus exhibition on the 11th of Septembre.

To take part you need good access to zoom and good wifi access

---------------------------------------

Initiated as a one off online to help those local individuals in my community "locked down" at home by giving them a focus on an "eco" activity using the Cotinus (smoke bush) leaves, the workshop proved really successful with 100 participants from all the time zones and was repeated 5 times in 2 years. Two years later #thetruecolourofthecotinus project is now a group of 600 participants from the 4 continents who join force regularly to print the Cotinus leaves blue via a technique put together as a team result.

On 9/10/11 septembre there will be an exhibition in Glasgow (Scotland) and a masterclass in person. Our event is to make sure no one who is a Cotinus lover is left behind...

-------------------

The exhibition will feature some glorious botanical prints, by Elisabeth and other participants together with some visual story telling about the project from participants from the 4 corner of the globe. Resilience and beautiful prints is of the essence. It is free of charge but may need to be ticketed if Covid restrictions are in place.

It is taking place over two days 10/11 septembre from 10.30 to 4 pm. Demonstrations of Eco techniques will take place on the Saturday, Natural dyeing, Spinning, Botanical printing and Indigo dyeing.

A paid Masterclass will take place on the 9th of September in the Botanical garden Kibble palace for a restricted number of participants. Printing the Cotinus on paper and fabric. It is suitable for beginners. It will be led by textile artist Elisabeth Viguie Culshaw.

The True Colour of the Cotinus is ongoing and the technique is available from those who want to work self paced at home via pdf method.

All participants are welcomed in a Facebook support group.
