About this Event

Second February session due to high demand!!

In this session we will check out Easter Craiglockhart Hill Local Nature Reserve where there is a pond, woodland and meadow. I'm hoping we will see all of our usual favourites and maybe the odd bird of prey or kingfisher if we're lucky! There is a beautiful view from the top so we will take a jaunt up. If you're keen bring a hot drink and snack as we will likely take a break at one or two spots to see what patience can reveal.

The group is non-hierarchical so, whilst I will loosely organise and time keep, the session structure and flow will be shaped by everyone to facillitate knowledge sharing and community. This group is for people aged 18-35 only.

We will meet on the corner of Craiglockhart Terrace at 12pm. What3Words location:

Wear appropriate clothes and footwear for the weather forecast. If you have binoculars, ID books or anything else you think you may want, please do bring along. There are no places for refreshments or toilets at the reserve so please do come prepared. There is the potential for toilets reasonably nearby at Craiglockhart Leisure Centre, Napier University or the Royal Edinburgh Hospital however I cannot guarantee this and wild wees might be necessary!

Any questions please email [email protected] or DM me on Instagram @the_treecreepers.

To keep up-to date with all Treecreepers meet-ups and events please follow us on Instagram @the_treecreepers or sign up to our newsletter/mailing list on Substack.

Sold out?

If the tickets are sold out please sign up to the waitlist, this way you will be the first to get a space if someone cancels!

Pricing

I am just one person running and organising this group so, in order for this to be sustainable long term for me, I charge a small fee per session. This covers my time at the Living Wage rate with any excess income reinvested in the group. Pricing is as follows:

  • Supporter Rate: £8. For those who have more than enough to comfortably meet their needs and non-essentials. This will help make the sessions accessible to others and supports my work.
  • Standard Rate: £5. For those who can cover their needs with some extra for non-essentials.
  • Accessible Rate: £3. For those who struggle to afford anything beyond basic necessities(e.g. on benefits or unemployed).

No questions asked, choose what works for you. Your presence matters most!

Want to pay in Cash?

Eventbrite adds a service fee to all tickets. To avoid this extra cost I am happy to take cash in person at the beginning of the session. Please email [email protected] to register for a space in advance.

**If you are emailing to book, your initial email must contain your first and last name and the rate you want to pay to ensure your place.**

Refund Policy

Eventbrite: If you pay via Eventbrite and cancel before the refund period of 2 days (48 hours) you will receive an automatic refund. If you cancel after the refund period you will only receive a refund if I am able to resell the ticket to someone else. No refund includes fees paid to Eventbrite.

Cash: If you agree to pay via cash and cancel before the refund period of 2 days (48 hours) you will not be required to pay. If you cancel after the refund period and I am able to resell your ticket to someone else, you will not be required to pay. If I am not able to resell your ticket then I will email you an invoice to pay which may require you to pay fees. An invoice is a legally binding document.

Accessibility

The majority of the walk will take place on dirt paths and grass. It is a fairly hilly area with some steep sections, especially up to the top of the hill. I will endeavour to make our route, pace and distance accessible to all attendees where possible.

Buses 10, 23, 27, 36, 38 and 45 all stop within reasonable walking distance. Other buses that stop in the nearby area (within 25 mins walk) include 4, 5, 11, 15, 16, 34 and 44. There is also Slateford railway station within 25 minutes walk.

If you have any queries about accessibility or want to inform me of anything in advance do not hesitate to contact me at [email protected] or DM me on Instagram @the_treecreepers.
