The Tom Merchant & Glen Johnson Sculpture Forum: A Material Passion: On Collecting Sculpture & Objects
Wednesday, October 14, 2026
Huizenga Grand Room | 6:30 PM
Complimentary Admission. Registration is required.
Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park owes its existence to Fred Meijer’s love of collecting sculpture. This same passion for three-dimensional art continues to drive contemporary collectors, who have also chosen to build collections heavily focused on sculpture. Although living with sculpture often requires greater commitment and planning than two-dimensional work, such demands are rewarded with the increased power and pleasure afforded by sculptural forms. The Sculpture Forum program, A Material Passion: On Collecting Sculpture & Objects, brings together a diverse roster of collectors who testify to the irresistible pull—and essential value—gained by collecting sculpture and other crafted objects.
Topics and Speakers Include:
The Artist Collector – Dale Chihuly
Britt Cornett – Director of Exhibitions, Chihuly Studio
The Collector as Passionate Patron
Dr. Mark Gurney – Sculpture Collector and Arts Patron
The Sculpture Collector as Champion
Jon Ott – Executive Director of Richard Hunt Legacy Foundation and former Chair of International Sculpture Center Board
